Spacious and super fun
Tour. Swim. Relax
About US ~ Newport Charters
Newport Charters is natural next step for On Watch, LLC. Sam and Green acquired Scup in the fall of 2024 for the express purpose of providing a motorboat offering for tours, swimming and spectating. While Newport Charters is a separate entity, we draw on our years of experience providing the very best on water experience in Newport.
Scup can accommodate up to 6 passengers, from 1.5-hour to full-day charters. Feel free to bring your own music, some light snacks, and a tasty beverage (no hard alcohol please!). Options include tours, general relaxation, and (on the longer trips) swimming, and anchoring.
Meet the Crew
What about us? We believe the crew makes the difference between a good and an amazing experience. Captain Jack is Scup’s primary mariner. If he has the day off, you may also have owner captains Green or Sam take you for a spin.
A Rhode Island native, Captain Jack grew up exploring the waters of the Narragansett Bay. He discovered sailing when he moved to Newport nearly 10 years ago and can be found aboard the On Watch boats when he isn’t running Scup. His waterborn adventures have also taken him beyond the Bay, with trips to Nantucket, Bermuda, and Antigua on his roster.
When he’s not on the water, you can still find him outside – whether that’s surfing, hiking, or in his garden growing his own food and foraging wild mushrooms. There’s also a good chance he’ll be catching live music, around town or on the road. He’s spent many winters backpacking all over the world. He’s got more travel stories than Walt Disney, just ask him! You’re sure to laugh a lot on any trip with Captain Jack.
About The Boat
Scup is a Luhrs 30 Cruiser and joined the fleet in 2025. Green and Sam have done a big refit on the vessel, with projects ranging from a new motor to a unique paint job (and lots more). This is our “fun” boat, focusing on informal tours, swim stops or simply cruising around Narragansett Bay and Atlantic coastline.
In settled weather, Scup is the only regularly scheduled Private Charter vessel that views the Gilded Age Bellevue Mansions – such as Rough Point, Rose Cliff, Marble House, the Breakers and more. With her spacious back deck, the boat is perfect for lazing away an afternoon at anchor in a cove with a picnic or taking that trip out to view the Bellevue mansions and area lighthouses.
